Thanks for a Record-Breaking Fair!

The 2014 Clay County Agricultural Fair is now history. Our 28th Annual Fair was a huge success. We set an all-time record attendance. This year’s attendance was 109, 868, + 6.28% over last year. The previous attendance record for the fair was set at 106,789 in 2011. The fair goal for this year was 110,000. We almost made it, only short by 132.

The fair enjoyed good weather every day. The weather the last three days of the fair was perfect. Attendance was down the first Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday due to threating weather in the area. However, the fairgrounds only had rain late Monday night and Tuesday prior to opening.

Attendance of 22,599 on the last day almost matched the single day record of 23,199 set in 2013. This was a really good day considering all the other activities in the metro area.

We want to thank our thousands of dedicated volunteers, who shared their time and talents to serve our guests. Their pride and passion are the foundation of our fair. In addition, our Sponsor and Media Partners provide financial and service support that are vital to our success. Their support and presence at the fair is exceptional and greatly appreciated. We are truly blessed to have such a great team. Their work and support has earned us a great reputation as a Family A*Fair!

Our 4-H/FFA Youth Livestock Sale was also very successful. The total sale produced a $223,325 for our  4-H/FFA participants. This also was a new record.

We enjoyed visits from several other fairs including the State Fair of Virginia and Columbia County, Pasco County, Osceola County, Miami-Dade County, Volusia County and Duval County, FL. In addition the National Independent Concessionaires Association Board of Directors and the State FFA Officers attended. Post visit feedback was very complementary. This was a real tribute to our volunteers. They are passionate people who are the backbone of our success. We are grateful for their dedicated service.

Thanks to everyone for your support of our fair. We hope that you will be a part of our team next year. Our dates are April 2-11, 2015.

Entertainment Changes at this Year’s Fair

Diamond Rio to Replace Ronnie Milsap for April 10th Concert

The Clay County Agricultural Fair announced today that the Ronnie Milsap Concert scheduled for Thursday April 10, 2014 was cancelled. The Fair received notice of the cancellation which was due to circumstances beyond Ronnie Milsap’s control.

Ronnie offered a sincere apology to his many fans and fair officials who were planning to see him perform at the Clay County Fair.

Replacing Ronnie Milsap in the Thursday night time slot will be Diamond Rio.  Entertainment Director, Tony Tharp, stated he was very pleased to get Diamond Rio to come perform at the Fair on such a short notice.

Virginia Hall and Sheryl Hartzog, Co-Marketing Directors, stated that all reserved seating purchased for the Ronnie Milsap concert will be honored for the Diamond Rio concert.

Six-time Vocal Group of the Year, Diamond Rio won their first Grammy for their first Christian album, The Reason on Word Records which also garnered the band their first Dove award.  Formed in 1984, Diamond Rio features lead singer Marty Roe, guitarist Jimmy Olander, drummer Brian Prout, keyboardist Dan Truman, bassist/harmony Dana Williams and Gene Johnson on mandolin/harmony.  The band signed with Arista in the early 90's and embarked on one of the most successful careers in country music. The band has sold over 10 million albums earning three platinum and five gold records and won the Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year award four times as well as netting two Academy of Country Music Awards in the top Vocal Group of the Year category and thirteen GRAMMY ® nominations. When they debuted in 1991 with the hit “Meet in the Middle,” Diamond Rio became the first group in the history of country music to have a debut single reach No. 1. They continued to place 32 more singles on the Billboard chart, including “How Your Love Makes Me Feel,” “Norma Jean Riley,” “Beautiful Mess," “Love a Little Stronger," and "One More Day."  The band are long-time supporters and National Spokespersons for Big Brothers Big Sisters and have raised over 1.5 million dollars for the charity to date through annual events including golf tournaments and Team Rio, a marathon and half group.
